After a gap of a couple of years, Thirsk’s White Rose Book Cafe and stand up poet Kate Fox are once again teaming up to bring a varied bill of wordsmiths and musicians to Thirsk at Christmas.
The headliners will be Vicky Foster, a poet from Hull whose first show has just been commissioned by Radio 4, and Herd on the Hill, a ceilidh band featuring local novelist Jonathan Tulloch.
Other acts include BBC Radio Leeds presenter Nick Ahad doing a stand up comedy set and award winning young North Yorkshire poet James Turner from Northallerton, who has just started attending York St John University and commended in the Foyles Young Poets awards in 2017.
In the past couple of years since the last Bloomin Words played to sold out crowds, things have changed for some of the regulars. Aidan Tulloch has started reading English at Cambridge University and been a runner up in the BBC’s Poetry Proms competition. Host Kate Fox has had a comedy series broadcast on Radio 4 and been awarded a doctorate in stand up comedy! She has also been hosting several events of “An Audience with Julian Norton” of a Yorkshire Vet at venues including Scarborough Spa and Ilkley Town Hall.
Kate Fox said “Although I’ve been very busy in the last couple of years, attending a recent event at the book shop made me remember how wonderful it is to see audiences getting together and enjoying words and music in my local town, Live events are even more important in this disconnected age, and it felt like Christmas would be a good time to bring back an event that was always really popular”.
Sue Lake, owner of the bookshop said “We are so fortunate to have great talent on our doorstep. bringing comedy, spoken word and live music together in one fun filled night. It will be the best live entertainment show in Thirsk before Christmas.” Tickets are £10 each includes festive nibbles, from the bookshop tel: 01845 524353 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org for further information.
